September 11, 2001 attacks (often referred to as 9/11—pronounced “nine eleven“) consisted of a series of coordinated terrorist suicide attacks by Islamic extremists on the United States on September 11, 2001. The victims were predominantly civilians.
On the morning of September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot. The hijackers crashed two of the airliners (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (1 WTC and 2 WTC). A third airliner (American Airlines Flight 77) was crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft (United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. In addition to the 19 hijackers, 2,973 people died; another 24 are missing and presumed dead.

Hourglass by Liquid Tension Experiment

November 26, 2006

Hourglass

I think that we have done enough reading and writing so I think we should take a break and listen to some music but its Instrumental though. Words are like songs lyrics but have you ever heard a song with no lyrics but you are able to feel the passion for the song?No singing along too and no lyrics to remember or think about.

Well this song is a really really good song I wouldn’t even want to put lyrics into it because it is so nice the way it is. Please only music lover’s listen to this song because the song is a nice slow song to remind us of times that we valuable to use. Times with our loved ones, friends, and for some with our kids but most of all it is able to bring back memories somehow.

The song is called “Hourglass” by “Liquid Tension Experiment”. I think its called hourglass because when you listen to the song over and over again there is no sense of time with you. Like your floating around the world watching time past before you eyes without knowing it. Sometimes not even words can describe things like love, feelings, and songs.

Liquid Tension Experiment is an instrumental rock project consisting of Dream Theater members John Petrucci (guitar), Jordan Rudess (keyboard), and Mike Portnoy (drums), as well as progressive rock icon Tony Levin of King Crimson (bass, Chapman Stick). The combo was formed as a side project to Dream Theater in 1998.

Kitty, Anne, and I

November 22, 2006

Anne and Margot are like my brother and I. We hate it when each other touches each others things. I hate it when he is my room. I hate it when he is using or touching my things. I don’t really care when my parents treat him better or are more of his favor then me because I’m used to it and I have a feeling that Anne would get used to it soon also. I cant relate to Anne loving her father more or her mother less because what I feel for my parents are private thoughts due to this public society but I may tell you it isn’t good or loving how I feel for them. So basically its me alone against the world and I like it because its all me learning and caring for myself without guidance. I rather be like this to grow up faster then always be protected or whatever you want to call it. Anne says “I don’t pronounce judgment on my mummy’s character, for that is something I can’t judge.” I do the same thing I can’t judge how my parents treat me because we are never perfect in everything we go but we could always try to get closer to that perfect ness. So I just tell myself if I have a wife and kids to never be a parent like them but to what I feel is a parent to myself.

On page 46 she says “Oh, so many things bubbled up inside me as I lie in bed, having to put up with people I’m fed up with, who always misinterpret my intentions.” This sentence definitely is mine. I know I have a lot of things bubbled up inside of me because so many people tell me I do. I wonder why I do and I think its because I don’t trust anyone to keep things between the two of us also if I try to open up a bit I always get snapped back with my feelings hanging in the dark and their feelings being shot at me where my heart used to be. Another thing I hate about people is that when they see me so bottled up they ask me to tell them what’s wrong and when I do they say “What about me how do you think I feel?” Then they start telling me it’s my entire fault and making themselves shine so perfectly without noticing it. If I say something I get &%@#ing snapped at which I hate so I decided to just not say anything and tell them nothing is wrong. I do realize that the person I’m talking to isn’t a counselor so I don’t expect the person to be so understand but if they are going to only think about their feelings only don’t bother to ask me how I &%@#ing feel then. Advice to people if you want to know the problem of a person give them advice and understand them don’t just talk about your feelings.

Another thing I seriously dislike about people is that they always leap into conclusions like when Anne picked up her sister’s book and her sister, mom, and dad straight away snapped at her. What they could have done was talk to her and tells her nicely to please put the book down or say “You should ask your sister’s permission first before picking up the book”. Don’t you think saying that is better than “I’d like to see what you’d say if Margot ever started looking at one of your books!”. Anne was miss interpreted because all she wanted was a nice answer and she would have put down the book. She didn’t fight back or complain so she was more of asking for a nicer answer when her sister asked her to put down the book. People always jump to conclusions when we say things to them even though in the end we are proven right but they are so stubborn and one track minded.

If I had a heart I would close it to the world but I found out something even better I lost my heart and I’m waiting for someone to bring it back with the key. No one seems to care but pretend they do.
I am not perfect as well but I don’t purposely go and look for ways to make people miserable. So for now it’s me against the world with no one side by side me like always has been.

What is Life?

November 19, 2006

So yesterday I was taking a pleasant hot shower and suddenly the question of “What is life?” came to my head and I started to think about it for 40minutes in the hot shower. Finally, I came to a conclusion what is life it maybe wrong it maybe right that’s up to you to decide. People say life is about having fun, earning money, falling in loving and all the other things u would think about that is true but it is explained wrongly and people receive it wrongly into their brains. Life is about decisions. Decisions if u want to have love and fun or greed and depression. Every step we take in the present and past is to shape our future. Without decisions there would be no life because we always make decisions in everything we do. Like Anne Frank she made a decision which affected our future she packing the diary instead of clothes helped us understand the past if she packed clothes we would not be learning about her in school and we would know less about the past probably. Decisions were made even in the beginning of time in the Christianity when Adam and Eve were in the Garden of Eden they had a choice to obey and not eat the apple but they did and that shaped our future and as Christians say caused man to sin from that time onwards. Please read more about Adam and Eve too fully understand the decision they made, I explained it just very briefly only. Anyways, Hitler made the Jews lives a living hell because of his decision he made. His decision to destroy all the Jews, destroy their lives, their families, and their future. How many lives would have been saved if the U.S. made a decision to open up their borders to the Jews?

Some people also say they wish they could erase the past or start their lives over again because of what they did in the past, their decisions they made. Starting over isn’t the answer the answer is forgetting the past and moving on. Making sure we don’t make the same mistakes now to repeat the past. The past isn’t as important as the future and the future isn’t as important as the present because it shapes our future. If u don’t want to remember or want people to remember how you were in the past then prove to them now that u have changed instead. It’s never too late to change but it’s too late to change the past. If you study hard now later in life you would be able to get a good job. Two things are happening in that sentence one your decision for what u want in your life later and the decision to study hard now(present) to get a good job later(future). They are all connected and they are the answer to life.

Enjoying ourselves, love, hate, war, peace, murder and so many more is life but is only caused by our decisions. So it’s up to us if we want happiness or depression. We can change what we want anytime because it our decision. For young adults (I hate the word kids) we say “It’s my life I can do whatever I want” that is not entirely true because we haven’t experienced everything our parents, teachers, or adults have so we cannot see the consequences we make in our decisions. Adults are here too advice us to help us understand. Nobody can force you to do anything in our lives but advice us to not make mistakes which will affect our future. Our final decision is ours because decisions rule our lives and if people make all of the decisions for us it won’t be our life anymore but theirs. Be careful though not all advice is good or correct. That’s why the final decision is yours and yours alone but we should try to be less stubborn and listen to those who we trust and give us advice that makes sense to us. Like I said there are all connected past, present, future, and decisions make life. Past, parents, teachers, and adults advising us on their past experience. Present, the decision we make from the advices we get and our own thoughts. Future, the decision we make in the past shaped our future. Decisions, is what we did in the past, present, and future. Life is what we make it and how we make it is through decisions.

Please feel free to comment on your thoughts and your questions. What u disagree with and agree with. Thanks

Reminiscences or Fashion?

November 18, 2006

Introduction/Task: I would like you to think about the things you would take with you, if your parents told you to pack one small bag. Remember you have no idea where you will be going, or how long you will be there. What is important to you? Memories or dresses?

By now everyone would say they would bring things like diaries and photos that remind them of the past. There is nothing wrong with those things after all those things are what helps us during difficult times and remind us of our past and the times before but most people don’t think about times in the future after the time of moving or hiding has past. So for my items I would take with will be five things that mean a lot to me but also will mean a lot to me and maybe other people in the future. The first item is a letter pad to write down letters and notes to people wherever I am. Wherever we go we will always be away from people we love and care about so during the time away I would write letters to them even if I may not be able to send it at that time at least if someone found it they would probably send it for me or I could send it later on. Then the people I care and love would know my thoughts of those times and my thoughts about them during the time away. I prefer letters than a journal because journal you are writing your thoughts about yourself but in letter your writing your thoughts of other people which is what really matters. Second item would be a pen of course to write and ink cartridges for my pen. Third item would be envelopes to write on peoples name and address so that the letters maybe sent. Fourth would be memories of the past which to me is pictures. Memories that remind me of who I am and what I liked. Pictures of friends, family, things of interest, and mostly pictures of good times wherever and whomever. My last item which would be weird to people but I love it. Its perfume, yes perfume. I choose perfume because I love the smell of perfume and perfume has different smells which have different effects on people like some perfume smells make u smell fresh, charming, manly, classy, natural, and active. The smells would be useful to me when you are down and always thinking about the world. Thinking about the world bring me to my other reason why I choose perfume because of the smell of the perfume it remind me of the smell of the world I was in. The smell of people around the world, smell of nature, smell of so many things. Able to smell to know I am still alive.

So here are some pictures:

Courage

November 14, 2006

Courage, also known as fortitude, is the ability to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty or intimidation. To me courage can be divided into physical courage and mental or emotion courage. Physical to me means that you are brave and willing to do something big. Like to die for your country or religion you need courage. Mental or emotional courage to me means you are able to overcome the fear of doing something that needs less courage to do for example asking a girl out for a date for the first time. Courage small or big has no difference because having to courage to do something is already an accomplishment the only difference is how big your accomplishment is. Courage can start from any age from a boy having the courage to sleep by himself at night to an old man who lives if life to fullest and not fearing death. Probably everything you just read doesn’t make sense to you but this is what I think courage is about, just that maybe I am explaining it in the wrong way or incomplete way.

First English Journal Entry

November 14, 2006

During class Mr. R. my English teacher had us some task which he was not able to help or guide us with. He sat there and watched us make a fool out of our selves. The task was a team meeting, choosing a leader, following the given instructions, and finishing the questions given.

The first team meeting the ESLR I used was Involved Citizen because I used the skill of interacting respectfully with people of diverse cultures. To me this means that I respected people from different cultures and also people of the same culture. Like being nice and respectful. What do I mean by being respectful to people of diverse culture and also the same? Well, for example when we were choosing a leader to lead the meeting I stood behind and listen to what the people who were taking power of the group and giving us instructions on how to vote for a leader or to be a leader. After they gave the instructions, I voted accordingly. Being an Involved Citizen helped me finish my part of the team meeting which was following the instructions for me by listening respectfully and waiting for my turn to talk and completing the task given.

I can connect the ESLR I worked with to other things for example when I am listening to my parents when they are mad or when they give me instructions to do things, I am being a Involved Citizen. When you are learning how to drive or learning about something important you would listen to the person teaching and follow the instructions given and ask questions if things are not understood. If I did not try using the ESLR during the team meeting for deciding on leader things would have gone really slow. I would be distracting people and taking them away from their objectives. I would have spoken when I felt like it and would have voted for people who weren’t supposed to be voted for to be our leader.

I think that this was definitely good ESLR for everyone including to have during that team meeting but I also would have been fond to use other ESLR’s too not only one. In the next meeting or another event, I will try to use most of the five ESLR’s. I would definitely give my self a 64% out of a 100% for this meeting.

Some other ESLR’s I didn’t use during the team meeting were Self-Directed Learner which identifies their needs and appropriate learning strategies, Critical Thinker which solves problems using a variety of strategies. What I mean being identifying there needs and appropriate learning strategies, is that when there is a problem I find the reason why there is a problem and when I find the reason, I find a way to correct the reason which would solve the problem. Solving problems using a variety of strategies means that I solve the problem using more then one method. Using different equations to solve the problem than only using one or the one that I know like when u do math there are different ways of solving the equation and you would find the equation which work best with you.

If I applied being a Self-Directed Learner during the meeting I think I would have done much better on completing the task and would have got a better grade. I would have actually tried to solve the questions instead of giving up. If I applied being a Critical Thinker I would first need to find the problem instead of skipping it or ignoring it.

Comparing the two ESLR’s to other ESLR’s that I would have needed during that time I think that those two are the most important because I would have been able to finish the task that were given to me and would have been able to score higher grades.

If I used the two during the meeting the whole meeting assignments and questions given to the group I was in would have been able to be completed and turned in. I would have not also gotten back comments like I was walking around the room, staring in space and unfinished work.

In the first team meeting we didn’t read the book Lord of the Flies but after we did we realized a lot of things that happen in the firs team meeting had happen in the book and for the second team meeting we wanted to improve a lot. About the book, Lord of the Flies is a boring novel written by William Golding which the whole class had to read and discuss. The paperback is about children who are trapped on an island with no adults. They form law and order at first but in the end fear and annihilation command them. Most of the decisions were made during the meeting they had. So after analyzing and discussing the book for about a month, we had a second team meeting with different tasks and a lot of improvements were made.

Self-Directed Learner would identify their needs and apply appropriate learning strategies, Academic Achiever who demonstrates the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, Effective Communicator someone which collaborates with others in appropriate learning situations to achieve group goals, Critical Thinkers solve problems using a variety of strategies. These were the ESLR’s used during the second team meeting.

Being a Self-Directed Learner I would have to find a question or task and use the correct learning and solving strategy to finish the task or question. Academic Achiever I would need to be able to work in a group with team work and keep on track with my tasks. I would also need to be able to work by myself without disturbing others and completing the task given. Effective Communicator one of the most important in group assignments because you would have to decide as a group on the final answers and not only decide for yourself what is the correct answer but listen to what your team members have to say and decided as a group. Critical Thinker which I use a lot when I am concentrating is to use different strategies to solve the problem.

I demonstrated being a Self Directed Learner during the meeting was when using the Bloom’s Taxonomy on the symbolism of the Beast when a question came up on describing what the Beast means in the book I had to use my knowledge of what we learnt that the beast symbolized. Academic Achiever was used when I asked everybody in my group to write down what they think would be the possible answer for that question and later discussing the answer and coming up with a final answer as a group. Effective Communicator was used when we had to sketch a what we thought the Beast looked liked and instead of everyone giving what they thought it looked like to one person to draw I had an idea of passing a piece of paper around and everyone would draw parts of the beast and start adding on. Critical Thinker was used when there were different levels of questions to be answer like the Bloom’s Taxonomy which need different ways of approaching the question and solving it.

These ESLR’s can be connected to other things in the world not only school for example the Self-Directed learner would also be used when doctors examine patients for example if the doctor suspects that the patient has a particular virus the doctor would use medical procedures to confirm his suspicion and start treatment. An Academic Achiever can be used by a Real Estate Agent by working with a group on the marketing of a particular property and selling the particular property to a customer by your self. Effective Communicator like I said is very important in decision making that even the Presidents, Prime Ministers, and Kings use it when they want to make a decision by asking several advisors and cabinet members advice before he makes the final decision on the idea. Critical thinking which about 99.9% gamers use when playing games for example a strategy game to win you would need different strategies to complete the level and slaughtering different bosses. In the end gamers start to use this strategy in everyday life like me.

What if I didn’t use any of those ESLR’s during the meeting then a lot of things would have changed for example I would have got all the questions wrong because I had not accepted wisdom about all the past lessons that would help me to answer the questions. If I was the leader in the group I would have just wrote down the answers that I thought was right to me and not care what answers or thoughts that other team members gave. If there was a group task and I didn’t like the way the group was doing the task and they would not change just because I didn’t like it then I would have just left the group to finish it their selves. Without using Critical Thinker I would be stuck on every problem and probably only giving a Knowledge and Comprehension answer.

I think if I had to grade myself I would give myself overall a 93% out of 100% because of the improvement and effort compared to the first team meeting. The second team meeting was very different for everyone nobody walked out of their group and disturbed other groups. Everyone stayed on task and completed it with their best efforts.

Some of the ESLR’s I would have liked to use during this team meeting are Self-Directed Leaner which demonstrates competency in goal setting, time management, and organizational skills and Effective Communicator who understands and convey written, oral, and visual information using appropriate media. Self-Directed Learner because I think that I wasted too much time on the questions and would have liked to get into the habit of dividing my time equally to the questions and time given. Effective Communicator because during the group discussion at the second meeting we had to write down our answer to the questions and in the group of 5 only 2 people wrote down while the other including me gave our answer to them, so I would like to improve my handwriting so that I can write down my answers and improve them by myself without telling people what to write down.

If I did use those two ESLR’s during the team meeting I think that we would have answered most of the questions more effectively and that when we hand up our group work the teacher would able to see that our group had a lot of team work and cooperation everyone put in their thoughts and ideas in answering the questions. Then I think if I had to grade myself I would give myself a 95% out of 100%.
